Variable frame rate video does not place every frame at one fixed interval. A useful export preserves those source timestamps instead of pretending the file is constant rate.

A screen recording, phone capture, or edited delivery file can vary its frame timing to save space or follow activity. Counting frames alone is not enough to recover when each image occurred.
How Chrona maps the result
The manifest keeps source timestamps for each frame. After trim and cuts, the stitched timeline starts at zero for the retained sequence while each frame still points back to its source time.
When to use fixed FPS instead
Choose a fixed output rate when a downstream model, slideshow, or animation tool requires regular spacing. Choose original rate when the timing itself is the evidence.
